A happy bunch ! |
Do your best, Let God do the rest - that is a saying that the youth group I work with are living. We are not just saying it - we are believing. Let me explain... I know of a group of teens that want to make a difference. They want to be a help to their community. They want to serve. And they are doing just that. "Tim, What can I do?" is what I hear almost constantly - that is desire. So what did we do - we prayed and set goals. We have a vision. (Proverbs 29:18a - Without a vision the people perish). We are focused, united and are looking forward. The have decided that the past is just that, the past.
Goal #1 - Camping retreat - An opportunity to enjoy God's creation without the hustle and bustle of tv, internet, computer and radio.
Goal #2 - Youth Conference. - An opportunity to fellowship with fellow teens from across our great province.
Goal #3 - Short term Missions Trip. - An opportunity to serve others and show God's love and kindness.
In order to meet these goals, we are focusing on prayer. And God is showing His blessing on us. For example: The last four days have been rainy, cloudy and wet, and yesterday the forecast was to be the same. Well when you are going to have a car wash as a fund raiser, rain is not a good thing to have. Instead of looking at this as a problem, we looked at this as an excellent opportunity to see what God can do! On Friday night I told the youth, "Yes I know what the forecast is, but watch what God can do." So we prayed. We prayed that the rain would stay away for the car wash and BBQ. We prayed that our financial goal would be met. And then we believed that God's Will would be done.
Here come the cars ! |
Saturday came - it was cloudy and most of the area was drizzling, but we still went to set up the car wash. At 10 am we started the car wash and BBQ. Cloudy, but no rain. Then the cars started to come in...one after another they came. An hour into the event we were half way to our goal. I will be honest with you - it was an aggressive goal, it was a stretch, but it was not impossible. If we made $100 for the day, I would have been pleased. So what was our goal? It was $300. Yep, we wanted to raise $300 in 4 hours for our camping retreat. That is the number that popped into my head the week before. And guess what - by 1:30pm...3 1/2 hours after we started we surpassed our goal ! We even had a lovely couple that heard of our event bring a cake for the youth. After a few hours of working, the cake was so good! It was a blessing to all of us to see such kindness from the community.
How can I sum up yesterday's events? - The youth were amazed - first that the weather had held off and second that our goal was exceeded. I heard a lot of them saying - "I can't believe it!" and "Wow, God is good!"
It is amazing seeing their faith grow. And I will tell you right now - as their faith grows, it will spread !
Do your best, Let God do the rest !
